Does Nevada Need Help?

The state of Nevada is suffering from a major drug and alcohol epidemic.  It is ranked as one of the ten states with the highest drug and alcohol abuse rates.

Besides alcohol, methamphetamine is one of the most frequently encountered drugs in Nevada and remains available in both personal use and distribution quantities. In  2009, there were over 1,890 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in the state of Nevada.

Prescription pain pill abuse is also an epidemic in Nevada, with Nevada ranking in the top twenty percent in all three age groups (12 to 17, 18 to 25 and 26 and older)  in the percentage of people reporting non-medical use of pain relievers, according to the NSDUA.  Nevada is the second in the country for consumption of hydrocodone and oxycodone. Even more alarming is how quickly prescription drug abuse continues to increase, during the last 10 years in Nevada, per capita sales of Oxycodone surged 366%. Hydrocodone sales rose 233%.

Another concern is the high rate of Nevada youth being cited for illicit drug use, marijuana use and non-medical use of pain relievers.  Nevada adolescents were ranked second to the worst tier for their past-year alcohol dependence or abuse and the worst tier for their past-year alcohol dependence. In 2009, Nevada youth accounted for 3.6% of the total primary heroin admissions in the Silver State, whereas the rate was 0.5% for youth nationwide.

Not all Nevada alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers are the same. They differ vastly in the line of treatment adopted, philosophies, staff efficiency and program costs. For families of those suffering from substance abuse problems, selecting the right rehab program can be quite a task.

It is very important to find a drug rehab center that is best for your type of needs. As the state of Nevada battles to contain the rising drug and alcohol abuse menace, a good number of rehabilitation centers are making their presence felt by offering new and unique methods to counter addiction problems.

The availability of these Nevada drug rehab facilities is a boon for those who are genuinely looking for a way to end their addiction problems. What is of prime importance is to complete the therapy and not allow relapses to occur, irrespective of the type of rehab program one has chosen to undergo.
